Dental Hygienist
Job Summary:
The RDA assists in the performance of quality, caring, clinical dentistry by aiding the doctor smoothly and unobtrusively during examinations and treatment. The RDA performs clinical and technical procedures under the super vision of a licensed dentist as well as prepares the operatory and equipment, gets the patient ready, and maintains awareness of the comfort and safety needs of patients.
Essential Duties:
- Records treatment information on the patient's chart, including treatment rendered, the type of treatment planned and the amount of chair time, doctor time and assistant time needed for next appointment.
- Assists the doctor by passing instruments, aspirating intra‑oral fluids, mixing materials and medicaments during examinations or treatment.
- Provides customer service support to patients by escorting them to and from the treatment room and prepping them for care by the doctor.
- Takes radiographs as instructed by the doctor.
- Prepares all treatment rooms including, but not limited to, set-up, decontamination, sterilization of all instruments, cleaning and restocking.
- Maintains cleanliness of the lab and sterilizing area.
- Maintains all chemical solutions, i.e., disinfectant soaks and sprays, sterilents, ultrasonic, and presoak.
- Reviews patient’s medical history, progress from the previous visit, if applicable, and the scheduled treatment plan with each patient.
- Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models.
- Ensures lights, units, nitrous equipment and automatic processors are turned on prior to the first patient.
- Applies non‑aerosol and non‑caustic topical agents and fluoride.
- Inspects patient’s oral cavity and charts lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth.
- Places and removes temporary sedative dressings and post‑extraction and periodontal dressings.
- Helps administer nitrous oxide to patients as applicable.
- Cleans hand pieces, vacuum traps, and sharp instruments.
- Places and removes rubber dams.
- Places, wedges, and holds and removes anterior matrices.
- Obtains endodontic cultures.
- Dries canals with absorbent points.
- Tests pulp vitality.
- Removes excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth.
- Packs and removes gingival retracting cord.
- Fabricates, checks & adjusts occlusion and cements temporary crowns.
- Performs coronal polishing.
- Pours and trims study models.
- Monitors incoming and outgoing lab cases.
- Orders supplies.
- Maintains plaster trap and lab counter areas.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Skilled in the use of standard dental office equipment including: Autoclave, model trimmer, X-ray machine - Pano, Panoramic X-ray, ultrasonic, Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide, Intra Oral camera, Vacu-press, and hand pieces.
- Ability to take blood pressure, and read monitors.
- Knowledge of cross contamination and how to prevent it.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when exposed to stressful situations.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and changes.
- Ability to take radiographs, including FMX, Pano and anterior PA’s.
- Knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment including: telephones, calculators, copiers, fax, computers, and computer software (MS Excel, Word, Practice Management software).
- Ability to engender trust from the doctors, co-workers, and patients.
- Ability to work cooperatively with management, staff, and patients.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks in a timely and independent manner.

Registered Dental Hygienist
Job Summary:
The RDH is in a special position to provide our patients the most important health service: ongoing preventive oral care by cleaning, scaling and polishing teeth to prevent gum disease.
Essential Duties:
- Records treatment information on the patient's chart, including treatment rendered, the type of treatment planned and the amount of chair time, doctor time and assistant time needed for next appointment.
- Takes radiographs as directed by the doctor.
- Records evaluation of periodontal conditions, occlusal relations and extent of prophylaxis on dental chart to ensure a complete diagnosis and proper treatment plan by the dentist.
- Provides customer service support to patients by escorting them to and from the treatment room.
- Administers Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen to patients as applicable.
- Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models.
- Applies non‑aerosol and non‑caustic topical agents and pit and fissure sealants.
- Removes excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth.
- Assists doctor during clinical exam and record findings and recommendations.
- Performs oral cancer exam on all patients.
- Scales, polishes, and applies fluoride to patient’s teeth.
- Prepares all treatment rooms including, but not limited to, set-up, decontamination, sterilizing and sharpening all instruments, cleaning hand pieces and room, restocking supplies.
- Places and removes post‑extraction and periodontal dressings.
- Sizes stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns, and bands.
- Inspects patient’s oral cavity and charts lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth.
- Evaluates gingival health and health of all oral tissue.
- Executes root planing and Myofunctional evaluations.
- Educates patients on the importance of preventative care, the disease process and the role of bacteria; provides appropriate educational literature and instruction on home care.
- Polishes restorations and appliances (partials, dentures, etc.).
- Administers temporary cementation and removal of temporary crowns.
- Schedules patient’s next treatment appointment, or communicates with appropriate staff to ensure this is done before patient leaves the practice.
- Implements and monitors recall system; contacts patients who are overdue for a recall.
- Helps fill the patient schedule when there are openings to keep production levels high each day.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

- Skilled in the use of an ultrasonic.
- Ability to perform scaling and root planning, take radiographs, and administer local anesthetic and Nitrous Oxide.

Financial Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Financial Coordinator insures quality dentistry is financially available to patients, communicates with patients regarding their treatment plan, determines the best option for financing the recommended treatment, and arranges appropriate financial plans with patients.
Essential Duties:
- Prepares patient financial action plans.
- Researches patient insurance benefits on diagnosed treatment.
- Coordinates patient financial arrangements according to the financial policy.
- Maintains appropriate financial documentation, including signed financial agreements if financing treatment.
- Records patient financial discussions.
- Provides financial statements to the employer.
- Presents the treatment plan, using models and diagrams, as necessary, and provides patient with related literature.
- Arranges the patient’s treatment-planning schedule and books appointments.
- Monitors payments to ensure treatment financing is followed through appropriately.
- Posts Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from insurance.
- Posts checks that come in the mail.
- Reviews patient charts for any incomplete treatment.
- Verifies charts have complete insurance information.
- Keeps patient charts up-to-date (address, phone #, insurance information, email, etc)
- Estimates costs of treatment provided.
- Contacts patients when pre‑authorization is received and proceeds with scheduling.
- Checks office's voice mail and email.
- Greets patients & notify clinical staff.
- Processes payment and check out patients.
- Prints out letters from specialists, puts in patient's chart, and calls patient for follow up if necessary.
- Sends x-rays to oral surgery when needed.
- Answers phone in a timely manner & makes appointments and makes sure phone is covered when away from desk.
- Calls unconfirmed patient appointment to make sure patient is coming.
- Once a month, runs reports on insurance balances: to see what payments are past due.
- End of day, runs insurance/Credit Card's and checks report.
